County of Wellington Commercial Vehicle Blitz

(County of Wellington, ON.) - The County of Wellington OPP remain committed to ensure the safety to all motorists and users of our roadways throughout the County of Wellington.

On Tuesday October 27th and Wednesday October 28th, 2009 members of the County of Wellington OPP Traffic Management Unit conducted a Commercial Vehicle blitz. OPP teamed up with members of the Guelph Police Service, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario and Ministry of Finance and conducted three spot checks at Wellington Road 34 at Wellington Road 46 and Highway 401at Highway 6, Puslinch Twp as well as Laired Road, Guelph.

During these checks, truck inspectors conducted 151 Level 1 Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspections. Out of these 48 vehicles were removed from services (31%) for violations. The officers conducted 28 Level 2 inspections as well.

Charges laid during this period were, 54 charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act under the Commercial Vehicle Regulations, and 12 Speeding charges, 7 environmental charges laid under the Ministry of Environment, and 1 driver received a three day suspension for registering a Warn on roadside screening device.
