1. Woodlawn Road West-Speed Enforcement Initiative-During the three (3) day period
between Saturday 17 July and Monday 19 July, 2010 members of the Guelph Police
Traffic Services Unit conducted targeted speed enforcement in the vicinity of Woodlawn
Road West and Governors Road Guelph.
This ongoing initiative was undertaken as a result of citizen's complaints regarding
excessive speeds and to address one of the corporate goals of the Guelph Police Service
to address traffic issues within the City of Guelph.
Issue: Woodlawn Road West at this location "auto mall" is a posted 60 km/h zone.
Woodlawn Road becomes Highway #7 beyond the city limits and lanes are reduced from
4 lanes to 2 lanes at that point. It is common for westbound motorists to accelerate as
they approach this transition area to position themselves ahead of "slower traffic" (often
motorists travelling at the speed limit).
This three (3) day initiative resulted in 65 motorists being charged with the offence of
speeding. The top speed recorded during this period was 107 km/h. In addition 2
motorists were charged with No Insurance, 1 motorist was charged with Driving under
Suspension, and 2 motorists were charged with "administrative" offences under the
Highway Traffic Act.
This location will continue to be monitored (at all times of day and night) and motorists
are encouraged to comply with the posted MAXIMUM speed limit of 60 km/h.
2. Attempt Break and Enter- On July 20th, 2010 at 2:45 am, a resident on Arkell Road
Guelph was alerted to the noise of someone on their porch. Police were called and found
that the screen to the front door had been cut but entry was not gained.
The male is described as: white, 6 `tall, heavy build, approx 19-25 years of age.

3. Public Assistance Requested- On Sunday at approximately 5:00 pm a plywood
children's play set with a steel slide was taken from a cement slab situated in front of the
Recycle Depot at 22 Petrolia Street (at Alma St). A grey Ford quad cab pickup truck
with tinted windows towing a large tandem trailer was observed with this play structure
in it, on Sunday the 18th of July 2010 in the area of Edinburgh and Willow Rd.
It is possible that whoever took the structure did so in error, thinking it was put out as
garbage, as it was outside of the fenced enclosure for Recycle Depot near some metal
bins. The unit was placed in this location as it was going to be painted before being
donated to a local charity.
The owner of Recycle Depot realises that this may have been taken in error and would
simply like the structure returned so that it can be restored and donated to charity.
