(Guelph Lake, ON.) -On Wednesday July 21st, 2010 at about 4:13pm County
of Wellington OPP officers responded to a call of an assault at Guelph
lake Conservation area.
Investigation revealed that at about 4:00pm Conservation Authority staff
received a complaint of some intoxicated males near the Guelph Lake
Nature Center on Conservation Drive, in Guelph-Eramosa Twp. Grand River
Conservation Authority staff; Superintendent and Assistant
Superintendent of Guelph Lake responded to investigate. The pair located
four men near the Nature Centre and staff advised that one of the men
were making arrangements for a taxi.
The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Guelph Lake are
designated as Provincial Offences Officers for the Province of Ontario.
The Conservation officers approached to speak with the three remaining
men. The officers explained the rules of the park and instructed the
three men to leave. This was met with resistance and threats to the
officers. While the park officers were making a cell phone call to
police, two of the intoxicated men started to push and punch the park
officials. During the assault one of the intoxicated men took the
Assistant Superintendent's cell phone to prevent him calling for help.
Two suspects fled into the wooded area nearby while County of Wellington
OPP officers responded.
County of Wellington OPP K-9 officer and Western Region OPP Emergency
Response Unit officers attended to search the area. Both suspects were
located hiding nearby and were arrested at about 6:30pm. Both Grand
River Conservation officers received minor injuries in the incident.
Daniel Durda aged 27 of Kitchener has been charged with Robbery contrary
to the Criminal Code of Canada. Lukasz Jerry Krawczyk aged 28 of
Kitchener has been charged with 2 counts of Assault on a Peace Officer
and 1 count of Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Both Durda and Krawczyk are scheduled to appear in Guelph court on
Thursday July 22nd, 2010 for a Bail Hearing.
