Investigation Leads to Arrest of Guelph Resident

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On October 15, 2012 an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP responded to a complaint regarding inappropriate comments and pictures that were received on a young females' cell phone. Initial investigation revealed that information obtained off of the victim's Face Book account resulted in her receiving the inappropriate material.
Members of the OPP crime unit assisted with the investigation that was also supported by the OPP's Child Sexual Exploitation Unit.
On October 19, 2012, the OPP received assistance from the Guelph Police Service along with the Guelph PS pornography section and the investigation culminated in the arrest of Dennis HIGGINS, 32 years of age.
The accused was charged with the following offences, all contrary to the Criminal Code:
- Transmitting sexually explicit material to a child under 16 years for the purpose of facilitating sexual offences
- Computer contact with a person under 18 years of age for a criminal purpose
- Expose genitals to a person under 16 years of age
- Breach of Probation Order
