DEER HUNTING SEASON BEGINS
(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – The Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remind the communities they serve that rifle hunting for deer starts one half hour before sunrise on Monday November 5th and ends one half hour past sunset on Saturday November 10th.
During this annual event, reports of gun shots are a common call made to the OPP. Hunters in the fields, woods and conservation areas will be easily recognizable in blaze orange hats and coats. Sounds of gunfire across the Bruce Peninsula will increase during this week.
The OPP assures the citizens of the Bruce Peninsula that this activity is not a cause for alarm. Members of the Bruce Peninsula OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) will be patrolling the Bruce Peninsula to ensure all hunters are complying with the regulations.
The OPP reminds hunters to ensure they have permission to hunt on any lands they are using. Failure to do so can result in charges.
Follow these guidelines:
- there is no hunting from roadways.
- no shooting across roads.
- rifles must be in hard or soft cases prior to and after hunting times.
- rifles must be unloaded at roadside and while transporting.
- always be sure of your target prior to shooting.
- no shooting from motor vehicles.
- ALWAYS have permission to hunt on lands you don't own.
Compliance with these simple guidelines will ensure public safety and greater enjoyment of the deer hunting season on the Bruce Peninsula.
