Web posted on December 31, 2012

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) Between Friday December 28, 2012, and Monday December 31, 2012, Perth County OPP officers conducted sixteen R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) programs throughout the county.

Officers stopped large numbers of vehicles but are pleased to report that no impaired drivers were charged and no alcohol related licence suspensions were issued.

In Mitchell officers conducting a R.I.D.E. stop on Blanchard St., charged a 30 year old male driver from West Perth for having an open bottle of wine in the cab of his pickup truck.

In St.Marys officers at a R.I.D.E. check observed a suspicious vehicle near Timms Lane. Upon checking the two male occupants of the Cadillac it was discovered that the 48 year old passenger, a London resident was wanted by St. Thomas Police Service. The male was arrested and handed over to St.Thomas officers.

The Perth County OPP wants to advise the public that they are continuing their annual "Festive R.I.D.E." program until January 02, 2013. In addition they want to remind all drivers that any amount of alcohol can impair one's ability to drive and the police can issue an immediate roadside driver's licence suspension to drivers who register a BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) in the "Warn Range" of .05 to .08.

At your New Year's festivities, if you plan on drinking, plan not to drive. Stay overnight, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, or call a friend or relative for a ride.
