U.G.D.S.B. Cancels Friday Classes

Web posted on January 09, 2013

Earlier today it was reported that the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will stage a one day political protest against the provincial government on Friday, January 11, 2013. As a result all Upper Grand elementary schools will be closed to students to ensure the safety of children.

On Wednesday evening, at a news conference, Premier Dalton McGuinty warned the members of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario that if they are not in school on Friday, they will be participating in an "illegal" strike action.

As a precaution The U.G.D.S.B. asks parents to make alternate care arrangements for their children and not send them to school on Friday.

U.G.D.S.B. Buses will still run to pick up secondary, Catholic and French-language students but will not collect elementary school students.

If a child attends a before and after, day care or Extended Day program in one of Upper Grand elementary schools, the operator of the program will notify parents directly about their plans for the day.

At this point it is not known if this will affect Upper Grand secondary schools. Any changes will be communicated to families.

This is to be a one day protest only, and schools will re-open on Monday January 14.

Updated Information will be posted on the Board and school websites, the Board's hot-line at 519-827-2089
