POLICE LOOK FOR VEHICLE RESPONSIBLE FOR DOWNED WIRES
On January 12, 2013 at 2:35pm, a white pickup truck was towing a trailer northbound on Stevenson Street North. The trailer was loaded with a portable structure. Between Cassino Avenue and Rosedale Avenue the load on the trailer came into contact with overhead tree branches and utility wires.
Several hundred metres of overhead television cable was ripped down and destroyed. The overhead electrical service going to a nearby residence was ripped out of the transformer, leaving it without electricity.
Police were required to intermittently close Stevenson Street over a 3 hour period while Guelph Hydro crews worked to restore electricity and repair damaged electrical services. The vehicle responsible for causing this damage was described as a white pickup truck, believed to have "Z71" emblems on the box portion, and therefore believed to a GM vehicle.
The pickup truck was towing a trailer - carrying what was described as a small portable building or a large shed. Further, a pole or utility stack was described as protruding from the top of this portable structure. It was this pole that is believed to have come into contact with overhead tree branches and utility wires.
Anyone with any information regarding this event is asked to contact the Guelph Police Service or anonymous tips can be left at CRIME STOPPERS 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted on-line at www.crimestoppersguelphwellington.com.
