OPP Conduct Traffic Stop on Hwy 401 - January 15, 2013

(Cambridge, ON.) – An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer from Highway Safety Division's Highway Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop, eastbound Highway 401, east of Highway 24, in the City of Cambridge, that resulted in multiple charges for both the driver and passenger of the vehicle.

At about 11:57 a.m. on Monday January 14, 2013, Provincial Constable Ball observed a Honda Civic travelling eastbound Highway 401 near Cambridge, and initiated a traffic stop. When the officer approached the vehicle, a strong odour of marijuana was detected.

Further investigation by the officer, resulted in the arrest of both the female driver and male passenger for Possession of a Controlled Substance. The male passenger falsely identified himself to the officer at the time of arrest. Both were transported back to Cambridge OPP Detachment for further investigation.

The passenger, twenty-seven year old, Shane TYRELLE of Ajax was held for a bail hearing on January 15, 2013, charged with:

>> Obstruct Police Officer

>> Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marijuana

>> Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana

>> Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

>> Public Mischief – intent to cause other person suspect

>> Fail to Comply with Recognizance

The driver, twenty-one year old, Michaela SINGLETON of Niagara was released on a Promise to Appear in court on March 8, 2013, charged with:

>> Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Drug

>> Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Marijuana

>> Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana

>> Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

>> Class G1 Driver's Licence Holder violations under the Highway Traffic Act (x 3)
