Guelph Police Investigate After Driver Gives False Name

On January 23, 2013, at 9:37 a.m., Guelph Police located the responsible male at a Dawson Road address and an arrest was made.

Brandon SOUTHCOTT 28 years, now of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80mgs, identity fraud, obstruct police, public mischief and drive while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act). He will appear in court on February 15, 2013.

On Monday January 1, 2013 at 12:28 a.m., Guelph Police stopped a vehicle on Speedvale Avenue East and an approved screening device was used. The male driver was arrested and charged with drive over 80mgs. This individual had identified himself to police as Richard RUFFOLO.

On January 3, 2013, after Richard RUFFOLO's name had been published by local media, a male attended to the Guelph Police Station to advise that he was in fact Richard RUFFOLO and that he was not the driver on January 1, 2013. Subsequently, an investigation was conducted and it has been verified that Richard RUFFOLO was not the driver arrested by police on January 1, 2013.

Charges laid in Richard ROFFOLO's name have been withdrawn.

The investigation has identified the driver on January 1, 2013 as being a 28 year old male from Acton. A warrant for his arrest has been obtained for the charges of drive over 80mgs, identity fraud, obstruct police, public mischief and drive while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act).
