Pedestrians Sent To Hospital After Hit by Vehicle

Web posted on February 06, 2013

On February 6, 2013, at 8:40am, Guelph Police attended to Woodlawn Road at Inverness Drive to investigate the report of pedestrians struck by a vehicle. Investigation alleges that three pedestrians were crossing Inverness Drive eastbound in the crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle making a right-turn onto Woodlawn Road from Inverness Drive.

An 11-month old infant in a stroller was knocked over, while his 21-year old nanny was thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and the 3-year old brother was run over. All three were transported to the Guelph General Hospital by EMS but only sustained minor injuries.

A 49-year old Guelph resident was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving, fail to yield to pedestrian, and no clear view to sides. These infractions total $780 and nine demerit points. He will appear in Guelph Traffic Court in April.

Guelph Police urge drivers to ensure their windshields and windows are completely clear of snow, ice, dirt, and any other debris that may inhibit a clear, unobstructed 360-degree view of their surroundings.
