Guelph Police Charge Four Youth with Kingsmill Fire

March 05, 2013 - On the 28th of February 2013 a 17 year old female from the Huntsville area was arrested and charged with the offences of Break and Enter with Intent and Arson Causing Damage in relation to the fire at 10 Kingsmill Avenue. This brings the total to 4 youth charged for offences relating to the Kingsmill Arson investigation.

On Sunday October 20, 2012 members of the Guelph Police Service and Guelph Fire Department attended a Commercial Warehouse located at 10 Kingsmill Avenue in the City of Guelph to find it engulfed in flames.

Investigation by the Guelph Fire Department - Fire Prevention Officer determined that this fire was the result of Arson.

Over the next four months an extensive investigation was undertaken by the Investigative Support Services Unit, the Forensic Identification Unit and the Youth & Crime Prevention Unit of the Guelph Police Service along with the Ontario Fire Marshalls Office.

On February 21 and 22, 2013 two 16 year old Guelph males and a 17 year old male from Elmira were arrested by members of the Youth & Crime Prevention Unit for Break, Enter with Intent and Arson Causing Damage to Property.

A 17 year old female from the Huntsville area is still outstanding and will be facing the same charges with regard to the fire.

The 40,000 sq foot Warehouse which was being used by the Saint Vincent De Paul Thrift Store as a storage facility for donated goods was completely demolished by the fire.

Damage and clean-up costs are estimated to be in excess of 3 million dollars.
