PERTH COUNTY OPP RESPOND TO SEVERAL CRASHES
(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Perth County OPP officers responded to nine motor vehicle collisions between Friday, March 1, 2013 and Sunday, March 3, 2013. Two of the collisions resulted in minor injuries to two of the involved drivers.

On Friday, March 1, 2013 just before 5:00 p.m. Perth County OPP officers responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Line 34 and Road 107 in Perth East. The investigation revealed the driver of a Mazda sports utility vehicle was stopped at the intersection attempting to make a left hand turn when a Ford Ranger pickup truck collided with the rear of the Mazda. The driver of the Mazda, a 76 year old male from Stratford sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 17 year old male from Stratford has been charged with Careless Driving.

Also on March 1, 2013 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Perth County OPP officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Line 20 near Perth Road 161 in West Perth. Investigation revealed a grey Volkswagen had been travelling west bound on Line 20 when it left the roadway, rolled over and came to rest in the south ditch.

Gloria REAST, 40, from Kitchener sustained minor injuries from the collision. She was treated and released from St. Mary's General Hospital. As a result of the collision she was charged with Careless Driving.

Perth County OPP encourages motorists to respond to adverse and rapidly changing road conditions by reducing speed and leaving extra space to adjust for reduced braking ability on slippery ice and snow covered roadways.

Drivers need to be prepared for the challenge of winter driving. We have no control over the weather however you do have control over your driving habits. Exercise caution at all times in an effort to safely reach your destination.

OFFICERS INVESTIGATING LISTOWEL MISCHIEFS
(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) - Perth County OPP officers are investigating several mischiefs to property occurrences that took place throughout the county this past weekend. During the early hours on Saturday, March 2, 2013 two vehicle owners had a windshield wiper and side view mirror removed from their vehicles. The vehicles were both parked on Main Street in Listowel.

Police also responded to two fire calls in Listowel during the early morning hours on Sunday March 3, 2013. A recycle bin that was left out on Inkerman Street East was destroyed by fire and a fire was discovered at a dumpster located at the municipal parking lot located on Main Street. North Perth Fire Department attended and extinguished both fires. Although the cause of both fires is unknown they are both suspicious in nature.

CRUISERS DAMAGED
(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Two OPP vehicles also sustained deliberate damage this past weekend. Sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on March 1, 2013 a side mirror was removed from a marked police cruiser. The cruiser was parked in the designated police parking area at the St. Mary's OPP Detachment.

Also, a Chevrolet Tahoe police vehicle parked at the Mitchell OPP Detachment had the rear windshield wiper snapped off. Police believe this crime took place sometime around midnight on March 1, 2013.

R.I.D.E PROGRAMS IN FULL EFFECT
(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Perth County OPP officers were busy conducting several Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) programs this past weekend. Between Friday, March 1, 2013 and Sunday, March 3, 2013 Perth County OPP officers conducted seven checkpoints throughout the county. In total, 195 motor vehicles and three motorized snow vehicles were checked.

An early morning R.I.D.E checkpoint set up at the intersection of Perth Road 130 and Line 26 removed a driver from the road that had been drinking. Just before 9:00 a.m. on March 2, 2013 a Dodge pickup truck entered the checkpoint. Officers spoke with the driver and noted he had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was administered and the driver registered a warn range suspension.

A 27 year old male from the Township of West Perth was served with a three day driver's licence suspension.

On Saturday, March 2, 2013 just after 11:00 p.m. officers stopped the driver of a Ford pickup truck that entered a R.I.D.E program set up at the intersection of Wallace Avenue North and Inkerman Street East in Listowel.

While speaking with the driver officers detected the odour of an illegal drug coming from inside the vehicle. Upon further investigation officers determined the driver was in possession of an illegal drug.

As a result, Peter GRDADOLNIK, 40, from Mississauga has been charged with charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice - Listowel on April 10, 2013.
