BOYS ON THIN ICE IN LISTOWEL
(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) Wednesday March 06, 2013, shortly before 7 p.m., Perth County OPP officers responded to a call from a concerned resident who observed 3 young males playing on the ice of the Maitland River at Listowel Memorial Park.
Officers located two 13 year old and one 12 year old boy riding their bicycles on the ice. The boys were given warnings about unsafe ice conditions and were warned to stay away from the ice.
Police are reminding residents that the water current of the Maitland River as it flows through Listowel makes for unpredictable ice conditions and large areas of open water.
Parents are reminded to ensure their children stay away from ice on bodies of water especially as daily temperatures are starting to rise causing more snow to melt, ice to become unstable and river flows to increase.
