Recall - Tachikara Port-A-Pump

This recall involves portable electric inflators distributed by Tachikara USA. The pump is black and silver in colour with the model number PORT-A-PUMP.

The affected pump has not been tested to determine whether it is compliant with Canadian Electrical Product Safety Standards. Consumers should immediately stop using the pump and contact Tachikara customer service for return and credit instructions.

There have been no reports of injury; however, Tachikara is aware of one incident in which the product arced upon plugging into an outlet because the switch was in the "on" position.

The affected pumps were manufactured in China by Ningbo Lingsheng Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. and imported through Tachikara USA Inc., McCarran, Nevada. The units were sold from January 2008 to December 2012.

Approximately 36 units of the affected pumps were sold at the following retail locations: Groupe Sports Inter Plus, Home Run Sports, Plante Sports Excellence, Playfair Athletics, Les Agence Roland Paquin, T Litzen Sports, Volleyball Stuff, and Tachikara.com.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this pump.
