Farwell to Constable Jennifer Kovach

On Thursday,March 21, 2013 Guelph Police Constable Jennifer Kovach was laid to rest after receiving a heartfelt goodbye. This wonderful, energetic and giving woman has touched many lives, not just in the four years she proudly served with the Guelph Police Services but in her entire life.

People were lining the streets as early as 9:00am to observe the police procession leave Farquhar Street at 10:00am, travel north east on Wyndham Street then south on Woolwich Street as it made its way to the Sleeman Centre. Accompanying the procession was horses and riders from the Toronto Mounted Police unit as well as Waterloo Regional Police, Hamilton Police and the Ontario Provincial Police.

The Sleeman Centre was filled with mourners as the whole country said its farewell to Cst. Kovach. It is estimated that over 5000 Police Officers and emergency services personnel came to pay tribute to Cst. Kovach today. Services from as far as Vancouver and Winnipeg as well New York State were in attendance.

The funeral services were lead by Constable Jim Gordon (Reverend), who was assisted by The Right Rev. Brian Magnus, and Staff Sergeant Scott Grover, D Platoon – Immediate Supervisor. Tributes included words from The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Chief Bryan M. Larkin, Guelph Police Service and Friend of father Bill Kovach – Peter Robertson as well as Sarah Cowie and Tara Spears – Friends of Jennifer, Constable Neil Moulton "D Platoon", Guelph Police Service – Worked on same platoon and Gloria Kovach - Mother and Bill, Jennifer's father.

The funeral concluded with a final salute from the Guelph Police Services and a final procession was lead by the The Massed Ontario Police Pipe Bands to the cemetery.
