Fire on campus

On November 30, 2013, at 7:51 p.m., the Guelph Police, Guelph Fire, GWEMS and University of Guelph Campus Police attended to a fire located in Dundas Hall, East Residence U of G. The fire was extinguished by GFD and a 20-year-old male, who was the resident, was taken to Guelph hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Damage estimate is not available at this time. Police investigation is ongoing.

Two Guelph Police officers and two Campus Police were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Break and enter

On November 30, 2013 at 12:44 a.m. the Guelph Police attended to a business on Kortright Road to investigate an alarm call. Police found the rear door to the business had been forced open. The cash register was damaged; however, no theft is reported.

Break and enter

On November 30, 2013 at 5:21 a.m., the Guelph Police attended to a business on Gordon Street South to investigate an alarm call. Police found damage to the rear door, however; the culprit(s) were unable to gain entry and no theft is reported.

High speed leads to charges

On November 30, 2013 the Guelph Police were conducting speed enforcement in the area of Wellington Street West and Imperial Road South. At 12:24 p.m., a motor vehicle was stopped after a speed reading was obtained with a laser speed measuring device. The motor vehicle had been travelling 112 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone.

A 57-year-old Guelph male has been charged with stunt driving excessive speed and speeding under the Highway Traffic Act. The motor vehicle has been seized for seven days and his driver's licence suspended for seven days.

Single car collision

On December 1, 2013 at 1:54 a.m., the Guelph Police Service, Guelph Fire Department, Guelph- Wellington EMS and Guelph Hydro attended to the area of Victoria Road South for a single car collision. Investigation alleges that a 39-year-old Guelph male was driving a 2002 BMW southbound on Victoria Road South when he lost control of the motor vehicle striking a hydro pole approximately 100 metres north of MacAllister Boulevard.

The driver received minor injuries; however the vehicle and hydro pole were heavily damaged. The impact caused live hydro wires to land on top of the vehicle and on the roadway. Victoria Road between Stone Road and MacAllister Boulevard remained closed for several hours throughout the night and early morning as Guelph Hydro worked to make the area safe.

The driver was subsequently charged with careless driving and will appear in a Guelph Court in February 2014.

Weapons call - arrest

On December 1, 2013 at 1:35 p.m., the Guelph Police attended to a Westwood Road apartment to investigate a reported weapons call. It is alleged that two male friends that live together in this apartment, became involved in a verbal argument. One of the males pulled out a knife and pointed it at the other during the argument. This caused the other male to leave the apartment and call police.

Police located the responsible male still in the apartment and an arrest was made.

Ryan JACKSON, 29 years of Guelph has been charged with weapons dangerous. He will appear in court on January 14, 2013.

Male arrested after entering home

On December 2, 2013 at 2:38 a.m. the Guelph Police attended to a residence on King Street when the homeowners called to report a male in their home. It is alleged that the intoxicated male had entered through an unlocked rear door. The male was still in the home when police arrived and he was arrested.

It was also discovered that he had been spitting on the floor of the home prior to police arrival. A 32-year-old Guelph man has been charged with unlawfully in a dwelling, mischief under and three counts of breach probation. He has been held in custody and will appear in bail court on December 2, 2013.
