Five vehicle head-on collision on Gordon Street

Guelph Police Traffic Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding a five vehicle collision on Gordon Street that occurred Friday December 13, 2013.

It is alleged that at approximately 5:00 p.m., a Ford pick-up truck being operated by a 52-year-old Guelph man was travelling northbound on Gordon Street (north of Stone Road). The driver suffered from an unknown episode and crossed the center median striking four southbound vehicles in a head-on style collision.

In total, eight parties were involved in the collision and transported to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries. Three of the vehicles involved were demolished and damages are estimated to be over $40,000. This section of roadway was closed for approximately five hours as officers reconstructed the events leading up to the collision.

Impaired driver arrested

On December 14, 2013 at 2:40 a.m., the Guelph Police observed a car driving suspiciously in the area of Woodlawn Road West. A traffic stop was conducted and the female driver spoken to. It was determined that she was impaired and an arrest was made.

Heather GIBBONS, 30 years of Waterloo has been charged with impaired driving, drive over 80 mg, drive while under suspension (HTA) and novice driver - BAC above zero (HTA). She will appear in court on January 7, 2013.

Robbery

On December 14, 2013 at 4:04 a.m., the Guelph Police were called to attend the Staybridge Suites hotel on Corporate Court to investigate a robbery complaint. It is alleged that an employee was working alone at the front desk when he was confronted by a suspect armed with a weapon.

This suspect demanded and received the hotel's cash float. It is currently not known whether the suspect originated from within the hotel or entered the hotel from an insecure entrance. The employee was uninjured as a result of this incident.

Description of suspect:

Caucasian male, twenties, 5'9", thin build, wearing a winter jacket described as being a solid dark colour (possibly blue) without any design pattern.

Impaired driver arrested

On December 14, 2013 at 3:32 a.m., the Guelph Police attended to Sweeney Drive to investigate a suspicious male and vehicle. Police located the vehicle running but parked on the front lawn of a house. The male was found asleep in the driver's seat. The driver was spoken too and subsequently arrested.

Christopher LAJEUNESSE, 31 years of Cambridge has been charged with care and control impaired and care and control over 80 mg. He will appear in court on January 7, 2013.

Downtown disturbance

On December 15, 2013 at 12:52 a.m., the Guelph Police Tactical Response Unit attended to a local business downtown to investigate a disturbance. It is alleged that a female had caused damage to a cash register and threw a pizza cutter at a male employee. During the altercation, the employee used a broom stick against the female. As a result of the investigation, both parties were arrested.

Kirsten HARGREAVES, 23 years of Guelph has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and assault with a weapon. She will appear in court on January 28, 2014.

Monir RAHMANI, 25 years of Guelph has been charged with assault with a weapon. Both parties will appear in court in February 2014. He will appear in court on February 7, 2014.
