Perth County OPP Property Crime Initiative

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) - The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) within the past half year has recognized an increasing trend of property related crime within the Municipality of West Perth. Investigation into entries of insecure garages, unlocked cars and residential properties, revealed that numerous persons were responsible for these crimes.

Investigation into these offences also indicated that the majority of criminal activities in the Municipality of West Perth, had drug and stolen property connections with individuals outside of Perth County.

A four month investigation involving the OPP West Region Crime Unit and Perth County OPP property crime officers has resulted in the arrest of numerous individuals, the recovery of stolen property, and the seizure of illegal drugs.

Ten individuals have been arrested and a total of 82 charges have been laid, for numerous offences. These ten charged persons include four residents from the Municipality of West Perth, two from Perth South, two from Kitchener, and two from Zorra Twp.

Police have also recovered stolen property with an estimated value of $16,600 which included ATV's, a snow machine, power tools, and other items. In addition, $10,000 cash, and illegal drugs with an estimated value of $290,000 have been seized.

The Perth County OPP is continuing to investigate property crimes within the County and are urging the public to remain vigilant at all times with respect to securing their property and personal belongings.
