Karen Farbridge Declares Intention To Run For Mayor

Web posted on January 08, 2014

With the Guelph municipal elections set for Monday October 27, 2014 several candidates have already announced their intentions to run for a position as a councillor or mayor.

As such, it came as no surprise when media and supporters were invited by Mayor Farbridge to attend a press release this morning at 10:00am. In direct contrast to Cam Guthrie's outdoor announcement, Mayor Farbridge used the well heated foyer of City Hall to formally declare her candidacy for another term as mayor.

The press conference was well attended by many Farbridge supporters wearing 'Re-Elect Karen Mayor' Buttons leftover from her last campaign. Also spotted in the crowd were Guelph provincial NDP candidate James Gordon and two Councillors Leanne Piper and June Hofland.

Since the nomination period opened on January 02, 2014, three other candidates have filed to run for mayor. Cam Guthrie already held his formal announcement after filing on January 02, 2014. Joining him and Karen in the mayoral race is John Legere and Nicholas A. Ross.

For anyone else thinking of running for one of the positions of councillors or mayor the deadline for submissions is 2:00pm on September 12, 2014.
