Pedestrian Struck Update

On December 3, 2013, at 7:20 p.m., the Guelph Police attended to Dawson Road to investigate the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. It is alleged that a 26-year-old Guelph man was operating a 1995 four door Mazda southbound on Dawson Road. His vehicle struck a pedestrian, a 60-year-old Guelph man, who was crossing Dawson Road.

The pedestrian was transported to the Guelph General Hospital and later airlifted to St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries.
A portion of Dawson Road was closed for five hours while investigators investigated the collision.

Update - The pedestrian remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The 26 year old driver of the motor vehicle was charged with driving without a valid driver's licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and a summons has also been requested for the driver operating an unsafe vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The collision is still under investigation and witnesses are asked to contact the investigating officer Cst. Matt Jotham of Traffic Services at 519-824-1212, extension #7434.


Drug Seizure

On January 17, 2014, the Guelph Police were involved in a landlord tenant investigation.
During the course of the investigation the accused was evicted and left behind some of his property. One of the items left behind was a large black duffle bag believed to contain marijuana.

The Guelph Police Drug Unit became involved in this investigation and a CDSA search warrant was granted for the residence. The warrant was executed and police located 3,395 grams of marijuana.

If sold by the gram, the drugs would hold a street value of $30,395. The accused was charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking. A 42 year old Owen Sound man was held for a bail hearing.


Vehicle Thefts

On January 22, 2014, the Guelph Police investigated the theft of two vehicles.
A 2006 GMC pickup with a snowmobile loaded in the back, was stolen from a business on Woodlawn Road West and a 2002 Chevrolet pickup was stolen from a business on Curtis Drive. The Chevrolet was later recovered in Hamilton.

Festive Ride Campaign

The Guelph Police Service Festive RIDE checks occurred between 7 December 2013 and 11 January 2014. Due to unsafe weather conditions, it was necessary to cancel RIDE twice in December. The five week program saw only four motorists being charged drinking and driving offences.
