Train Collides With Tractor Trailer - January 28, 2014

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) On January 26, 2014 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding a collision involving tractor trailer and a freight train on County Road 29 just north of Highway 7 in Guelph-Eramosa Twp.

Investigation revealed that a southbound 2011 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling automotive frames was southbound on County Road 29 when the rear of the trailer was struck by a westbound freight train hauling grain and crude oil.

The traffic control lights and stop arms were functioning properly. The train slowed down however, was unable to stop in time and clipped the rear of the trailer. The train was not derailed and the load remained intact.

The Guelph-Eramosa Fire Department responded along with the Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Wayne Lockwood age 57 of Barrie has been charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on February 18, 2014 to answer to the charge.
