Web posted on February 26, 2014

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) - On Tuesday February 25, 2014, shortly after 8 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to a collision on Hwy 8 between Sebringville and Mitchell, where a car had been struck by a run-away tire/rim from a tractor trailer.

Investigation indicated that a tractor trailer had been travelling west bound in the west bound lane of Hwy 8 west of Road 150, when two passenger side tires from the rear axle of the full sized trailer came loose.

One of the tires bounced and rolled onto the east bound lane, where it struck an east bound 2006 Pontiac four Door Sedan. The female driver of the sedan, a 59 year old Municipality of West Perth resident was uninjured but her vehicle sustained extensive front end damage.

The tractor trailer continued west bound and was located in Clinton by a Huron County OPP officer. The truck was operated by a 49 year old male from Mariposa Twp. Ontario. The 2001 Peterbilt truck and 2008 Star trailer were mechanically inspected at the scene by a Ministry of Transportation enforcement officer. The Perth County OPP is continuing its investigation into this incident.
