Guelph Police Reports - March 04, 2014

Web posted on March 04, 2014

On March 1, 2014, at 12:27 a.m., the Guelph Police responded to a collision at the intersection of Victoria Road North and Cassino Avenue. It is alleged that a police cruiser was stopped for a red light at Cassino Avenue at Victoria Road.

The cruiser made a left turn onto Victoria Road against the red light as the officer was investigating another moving vehicle believed to be stolen. A 2000 Ford Explorer travelling southbound on Victoria Road swerved to avoid a collision with the cruiser and struck a snowbank on the southwest corner of the intersection.

This caused the vehicle to rollover onto the driver's side. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken to the Guelph General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

The Explorer received approximately $4,000 in damage. The cruiser was not struck and the officer was not injured. The officer was charged with red light proceed before green under the Highway Traffic Act
