Collision

On March 10, 2014, at 2:35 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Wellington Road, west of Fife Road for a collision. It is alleged that a 2003 Saturn was travelling westbound while a 2011 Honda was travelling eastbound. The Saturn crossed over the center line and collided head on with the Honda. Following the collision both vehicles became engulfed in flames while the occupants safely escaped.

The four passengers in the Honda were transported to the Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Saturn was transported to the Hamilton General Hospital with serious injuries. The investigation is still ongoing.

Distraction thefts

The Guelph Police Service would like warn citizens of Guelph about distraction-style thefts occurring in retail stores. The suspects appear to be targeting seniors. They are distracting seniors by offering to assist the senior with trying on clothing or request assistance with a product and steal purses/wallets from their shopping carts.

There have been four of these occurrences reported in Guelph since February 1, 2014.

TIPS --> The professionals are very good at getting in, getting out, and disappearing within seconds.

--> Remember that you can be a victim anywhere.

--> The thieves are opportunists.

--> Pay attention to your belongings and beware of distractions from others.

--> Be sure to protect your PIN when making financial transactions.
