Web posted on March 17, 2014

(WELLINGTON NORTH TWP, ON) On March 15, 2014 just after 4:00 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving 18 vehicles on Highway 6 just south of Arthur.

Officers attended along with Wellington North Fire Services and Mapleton Township Fire Rescue as well as the Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Three parties were transported by land ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Wellington North Township staff opened the Arthur Community Centre for those involved in the collision to stay warm during the ongoing police investigation. Highway 6 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours from Wellington Road 109 to Wellington Road 17 and has now reopened.

Wellington officers also investigated numerous other multi-vehicle collisions as the blowing snow and gusting winds created very difficult driving conditions with poor visibility.

Winter weather is not finished. If motorists find themselves in challenging driving conditions, it is important to remember to slow down and drive according to the ever- changing road and weather conditions.

Please do not call 911 or the OPP for road reports. Motorists should monitor local news media for weather conditions, check the Ministry of Transportation website prior to leaving for road conditions; log on to
