Recall - Altex Stock Roller Shades With Chain

Web posted on March 18, 2014

This recall involves stock roller shades manufactured by Altex Dcoration Lte. The shades are made of fibreglass covered with vinyl or PVC and have a cord or chain loop.

Health Canada has determined that the recalled shades pose a strangulation hazard because they do not have a control mechanism (spring mechanism) solidly attached to the chain loop. Young children may pull looped cords around their neck, causing a strangulation and entanglement hazard.

Neither Health Canada nor Altex Dcoration Lte has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this product. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact the place of purchase to obtain a new chain mechanism.

The affected product was manufactured in Canada by Altex Dcoration Lte, Terrebonne, Quebec. Approximately 7,247 of the recalled stock roller shades were sold in Canada. The recalled products were sold between June 2010 and April 2013.

For more information, consumers may contact Altex Dcoration Lte by email, or by telephone at 1-450-968-0880, or they may visit the recall page on Altex's website. Consumers may also obtain information from the store where they purchased the shades.

For more information on the hazard, see Blind Cord Safety.
