ATV OPERATOR HAS DAY IN COURT

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) - On Sunday March 30, 2014, around 7 p.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol, observed a three wheeled All Terrain Vehicle (ATV), travelling east bound on Line 49, east of Perth Road 135 north of Rostock.

The male operator of the ATV and his male passenger were both not wearing helmets. The officer pulled over the ATV, spoke to the males and discovered numerous violations. The ATV was found to be mechanically unfit, and failed to have insurance. The ATV was towed from the scene and has been held for a seven day impoundment.

The passenger, a 22 year old male from the Township of Perth East was issued a ticket for "failing to wear a proper helmet". The driver a 22 year old male from the Township of Perth South was ticketed for "failing to wear a proper helmet", "failing to surrender permit for motor vehicle", and "drive motor vehicle, no plates".

The driver was also issued summonses for "drive motor vehicle not equipped with an approved ignition interlock device", "operate a motor vehicle without insurance", and with "operate an unsafe vehicle". He will have to appear in Stratford Court on May 13, 2014 to answer to these three charges.

CAR COLLIDES WITH FARM TRACTOR

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) - On Monday March 31, 2014, shortly before 8:30 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to a collision between a car and a farm tractor on Perth Line 43 west of Amulree.

Investigation revealed that a John Deere farm tractor was being driven east bound in the east bound lane of Perth Line 43 at approximately 25 km/h. An east bound Honda Civic travelling in the east bound lane, impacted the tractor from behind.

The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicles. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital. The 78 year old male driver of the Civic, a Waterloo resident, sustained major injuries. The 44 year old tractor driver, a Township of Perth East resident, sustained minimal injuries.

The tractor driver has been charged with "improper lights on farm vehicle".

FIREARMS CARELESSLY USED

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) - On Friday March 28, 2014, around 5 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to an address on Line 51 east of Perth Road 119, where a male walking his dog near his house had shots fired in his direction.

Officers attended the scene and heard gun shots coming from the area west of where the complainant resides. Males were observed shooting a rifle at a target from the side of a residence along Line 52 west of Perth Road 119. Shots were fired in the direction of the complainant's residence. Officers arrested four males and seized nine rifles in addition to ammunition.

David NIEKOLEY (20) of the Municipality of West Perth, Martin NIEKOLEY (24) of the Municipality of West Perth, Isaac NIEKOLEY (21) of the Township of Perth South, and Peter NIEKOLEY (30) of the Township of Perth East were all charged with "careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition" contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. They are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford to answer to the charges.
