City and GPFFA Reach Tentative Two Year Contract

Guelph, On, April 15, 2014 This afternoon the City and the Guelph Professional Firefighters Association (GPFFA) reached a tentative two-year, collective agreement.

Details of the agreement, to be dated January 2013 to December 2014, will be released after it is ratified by GPFFA members and City Council.

"The City was committed throughout the negotiations to reach a settlement that is fair to Guelph's firefighters and Guelph taxpayers," said Mark Amorosi, the City's executive director of Corporate and Human Resources. "We're pleased to amicably reach this milestone in the collective bargaining process."

"The GPFFA is pleased to announce we have reached a tentative agreement with the City," said Colin Hunter, the president of the Guelph Professional Firefighters Association. "We believe this deal is fair to our members and the taxpayers of Guelph."

Contract negotiations began on December 18, 2012 and the City filed for interest arbitration on June 10, 2013. The previous contract expired December 31, 2012. The GPFFA represents the City's approximately 165 fire department employees.
