Web posted on April 18, 2014

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) - On Wednesday April 16, 2014, shortly after10:30 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a major collision on Perth Line 86 east of Listowel.

Investigation determined that a Pontiac Montana minivan was following a west bound full sized tractor trailer on Perth Line 86 just east of Road 152. The driver of the Montana van proceeded to pass the transport when the passenger side front corner of the van made contact with the rear driver's side corner of the tractor trailer.

This resulted in the driver of the van to lose control and veer onto the north gravel shoulder where it spun and was sent back across both lanes of Perth Line 86. The minivan was subsequently struck by a Chevy Malibu which was travelling east bound. This impact caused the minivan to roll and land on its driver's side, trapping the driver. The impact caused the Malibu to remain upright but the passenger inside was trapped.

The North Perth Fire Department attended and extricated the 21 year old female driver of the Montana van, a resident of Waterloo, and the 79 year old male passenger of the Malibu, a resident of Tiverton. Both were transported to local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Malibu, a 67 year old male from Tiverton sustained minimal injuries while the driver of the tractor trailer, a 58 year old male from Cambridge was uninjured.

Perth Line 86 is expected to remain closed until approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday 16, April 2014, to allow for the OPP Western Region Traffic Collision Investigation Unit to complete its investigation into the crash. Motorists are requested to use alternate routes around the collision location.
