Recall - Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Plate

Web posted on April 23, 2014

This recall involves Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Plate imported and distributed by SCR China Trade Inc. The round plate measures 8 inches in diameter and comes with a plastic display stand. An image of Queen Elizabeth II and the text "Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee 1952-2012" are displayed on the plate.

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the recalled products contain lead in excess of the allowable limits. These products were tested and determined to be non-compliant with the Glazed Ceramics and Glassware Regulations requirements for heavy metals.

Neither SCR China Trade Inc. nor Health Canada has received reports of illness related to the use of these recalled plates.

The recalled plates were sold from February 2012 to April 2014. An unknown number of the recalled plates were sold at various retailers in Canada.

The recalled plates were manufactured in China and distributed through SCR China Trade Inc., Markham, Ontario.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled plates and dispose of them. Consumers are asked to contact their municipality for instructions on disposing items containing lead.

Lead is highly toxic if ingested by young children, builds up in the body and can cause vomiting, diarrhea, convulsion, coma or even death. Over time, exposure to lead can result in many harmful health effects.

For more information on the risks and symptoms of lead exposure, visit the Healthy Canadians page called Reduce your exposure to lead. Consumers may also visit Health Canada's Glazed Ceramics and Glassware Regulations - Dealer Information for information regarding the heavy metals in glazes.
