Update In Ken's Restaurant Fire Investigation

Updated information:

A male associated to Ken's Family Restaurant remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries as a result of this incident. The Office of the Fire Marshal, Guelph Fire Department Fire Prevention Office, and Guelph Police Service members have been investigating the circumstances of the fire.

This is an ongoing investigation, and facts and circumstances will not be released. At this time investigators believe this fire to have been deliberately set, and it is not believed to be a random act. Guelph Police Service members continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fire, with the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal.

On Monday May 5, 2014, Guelph Police Service requested members of the public who had been at Ken's Family Restaurant on Sunday May 4, 2014 to contact investigators. We have received contact from numerous members of the public, and are grateful for the assistance received.

If members of the public were in the area of Silvercreek Parkway North and Woodlawn Road West on Sunday evening between 7:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. and noticed anything, they are asked to contact D/Cst Lester Tang at 519-824-1212 X 7343 or D/Sgt Dave Elloway at 519-824-1212 X 7344, or if they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

On May 4, 2014 at approximately 8:00 p.m. emergency services were alerted to a fire at Ken's Family Restaurant, Silvercreek Parkway North at Woodlawn Road West. Guelph Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire in the premises.

One male from the restaurant was taken to Guelph General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Three Guelph Police officers were treated at Guelph General Hospital for smoke inhalation and released.
