Theft from cars

The Guelph Police are looking for public assistance

On May 16, 2014 at 3:27 a.m., the Guelph Police responded to a disturbance complaint within a Wateloo Ave apartment.

The Police investigation alleges that a male suspect attended the apartment targeting the victim. The suspect and victim are known to each other. The suspect demanded cash and a violent struggle ensued when the victim refused. The victim was able to flee the apartment and collapsed a short distance away where he was located by Police.

The 27-year-old male victim was taken to the Guelph General Hospital where his injuries were described as serious. As a result the victim was airlifted to a trauma unit hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene and is described as male, white, approx. 5'9, slender, dark hair, late 40's to early 50's wearing dark clothing.

ATM stolen

The Guelph Police are investigating the theft of a truck and ATM that occurred in the early morning hours of May 18, 2014. Two suspects went to the south end of Guelph, broke into and stole a pickup truck.

They then took the stolen pickup truck to an ATM vestibule, where they used the truck to rip the ATM machine from the wall. Police located and recovered the stolen vehicle a short time later close to the theft location.

The suspects are described as:
Male, white, 5'9", wearing a black checkered jacket and beige pants

Male, white, 6', wearing a grey jacket and black jacket and black pants

Police are asking anyone that was in the area of Southgate Drive and Laird Road at around 4:30 a.m. and noticed something suspicious to contact D/Cst. Chris Probst at 519-824-1212 ext. 7342. Collision

Guelph Police are investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Speedvale and Delhi at 1:30 p.m. on May 19, 2014. The collision involved a white Kia SUV and a silver Honda Accord.

Police are seeking any witnesses to the collision and are asking for any information. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Cst. Positano at 519-824-1212 ext. 7274. Impaired driver

On May 19, 2014 at 4:41 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a single car collision into a tree in the area of York Road and Stevenson Street. The driver left the inoperable vehicle at the scene and went home. Police investigation led to the driver's arrest.

Matthew WHALEY, 32 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg under the Criminal Code. He has also been charged with fail to remain and novice driver BAC above zero under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in court on July 4, 2014.

Four break and enters investigated over weekend

On May 18, 2014 the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at a Conroy Crescent residence. Culprit(s) entered by smashing a basement window sometime overnight. A theft has been reported.

On May 19, 2014 at 1:46 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at a Pinnacle Crescent residence. Culprit(s) entered through a rear door sometime on May 18. A theft of cash and electronics has been reported.

On May 19, 2014 at 1:47 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at Waverly Drive School. Culprit(s) entered by smashing a window to a classroom. Police located laptops piled inside the entered room and also located laptops and electronic equipment in the school yard. G4S security responding to the alarm is believed to have forced the culprit(s) to vacate quickly.

On May 19, 2014 at 7:07 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated a break and enter at a Hewitt Lane residence. Culprit(s) entered the garage through the open garage door. A theft of alcohol and a laptop has been reported.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received multiple reports from Guelph residents reporting thefts from their cars. The locations were Summit Crescent, Vanier Drive, Scottsdale Drive, Lincoln Crescent, Woodlawn Road East, Kathleen Street and two on Marlborough Road.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars and by keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle.
