Recall - Cordelia Two-Lamp Fluorescent Shop Light

Web posted on May 28, 2014

This recall involves Commercial Electric brand basic hanging shop lights that use two, 122 centimetre (48-inch), T8, fluorescent lamps. The recalled shop light is a metal light fixture with four plastic lamp sockets and a white finish.

It is 123 centimetres (48 inches) long, 11 centimetres (4.25 inches) wide and 6 centimetres (2.5 inches) high and has two 27 centimetre (10.5-inch) long chains for hanging. The lamp sockets must be snapped into place during installation. Model number CESL401-06 and SKU number 201-462 are printed on a white label on the top of the fixture.

The lamp sockets can allow loose connections, posing a risk of an electrical arc and fire. Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the shop lights. Consumers can return them to any Home Depot store for a full refund.

In Canada, Cordelia Lighting has received 462 reports of incidents, including 149 incidents of units smoking, 143 incidents of units catching on fire, 97 incidents of units sparking, 68 incidents of units burning out, and five incidents of units with electrical arcing. No injuries have been reported.

Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of these lights.

The recalled products were sold from August 2013 through March 2014. Approximately 111,300 of the recalled lights were sold at Home Depot stores across Canada.
