Perth County OPP 'Stop and Look' Camaign

Web posted on June 02, 2014

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - Next week, from Monday June 2nd to Thursday June 5th, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers will be running a "Stop and Look" campaign. They will be focusing attention on intersection related offences where drivers fail to stop or yield where required.

Within Perth County, statistics indicate that one quarter of fatal collisions are a direct result of failing to stop or yield at intersections. This percentage is similar for injury and property damage collisions at intersections within the County.

During this four day campaign, officers will focus their available time on all intersections, however a number of specific intersections have been identified as target areas. The chosen intersections have been determined as a result of public complaints or because of high historic collision rates.

"Previous "Stop and Look" campaigns have resulted large numbers of offence notices being issued, but this is not our focus. We want to raise awareness of traffic controls at intersections and to encourage drivers to "Stop and Look", especially at stop signs. "Remember, don't become a statistic" Staff Sergeant Joel Skelding Perth County OPP.
