Web posted on June 13, 2014

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to thank members of the public who supported the 2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) by purchasing a t-shirt or bracelet, sponsoring an athlete, or coming out to cheer the runners on. Participants included Special Olympic Athletes, members of the Wellington County OPP, County of Wellington employees and members from the Crown Attorney's Office.

The June 4th run started at the Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre in Guelph-Eramosa Township and finished at the Guelph city limits where the torch was passed on to members of the Guelph Police Service.

The LETR is a community-based, province-wide event that sees the "Flame of Hope" carried across Ontario by members of law enforcement agencies from around the province.

OPP Detachment Commander Scott Lawson who ran in the event said, "the run is held annually to raise funds and awareness of the Special Olympics movement in Ontario and we are proud and privileged to lend our support".

Funds raised will be used to assist athletes at the 2014 Canada Special Olympics being held in Vancouver between July 8th 13th.

"We are already planning for next year where we hope to have even more runners", says Lawson. "It puts a smile on all our faces".
