Recall - Classic Fan Heater with Thermostat

Web posted on July 21, 2014

This notice involves the Classic brand fan heater with thermostat. Affected heaters are identified by model number FH03, which is printed on the label found on the bottom of the unit.

The heaters have store item number 3836-023 and UPC 822733016659 printed on the product packaging. The fan has two heat settings (750/1500 watts) and was only sold in black.

It has been discovered that some units of the Classic fan heater may have sustained some damage where the bracket holding the fan motor assembly was dislodged or broken. There may not be any visible damage, but if the fan motor assembly is not being held by the bracket, the rotation of the fan blade could be impeded causing the motor to overheat and smoke, posing a potential fire hazard.

Home Hardware has received seven reports of the Classic fan heater overheating. No injuries have been reported. Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or complaints related to the use of these heaters.

The affected product was sold from March 2012 to July 2014. Approximately 28,000 units were sold in Home Hardware stores across Canada.

The affected products were manufactured in China and imported through Home Hardware Stores Ltd., St. Jacobs, Ontario.

Consumers should check if the fan blade on the unit is rotating properly after it is turned on. If the fan blade does not rotate, turn the unit off immediately. If the unit is within its one year warranty, return it to your local Home Hardware store for inspection and replacement. If the product is out of warranty, then discontinue using the heater and dispose of it.
