Sunny Day Walkabout in Downtown Guelph

Guelph's downtown core is alive with beautiful flowers all summer long. Wandering around with a camera is a wonderful and relaxing way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon, so that's exactly what your intrepid Editor did for her Editor's SunnyDay Downtown Walkabout.

The cenotaph, located at the intersection of Wyndham and Woolwich (and Eramosa and Cardigan) at the north end of the downtown core, is always beautifully decorated - and now is no exception. Bright red and white plants, in a distinctive chevron pattern, really catch your eye in the bright afternoon sun.

Our cenotaph was created by the well-respected sculptor Alfred Howell, who created other war memorials in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, and St. John, New Brunswick.

The buses are back on our streets again. Bus travel is free until Friday night, so why not check out how you can get around the city in an environmentally-friendly way.

With all the rain we've had this summer, the river is running high and the banks covered with lush vegetation. In the background are the St. George's church steeple and the almost-completed RiverHouse building.
