The Results Of The Civic Day Long Weekend

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers made every effort to keep County roads and waterways safe over the Civic Day long weekend. Officers aimed to continue raising awareness and enforcing traffic laws associated with the "Big 4" driving behaviours that are blamed for injuries and deaths on roadways.

They include, impaired driving, not wearing seatbelts, distracted driving and all aspects of aggressive driving. There was also a focus on motorists respecting the Move Over Law, which is legislation aimed at protecting emergency service responders at the roadside.

The local numbers for Wellington County OPP enforcement were;
--> Speeding charges 220
--> Impaired driving charges- 3
--> Seatbelt charges 10
--> Distracted driving charges 3
--> Racing/Stunt driving charges -3
--> Marine charges 3

Wellington County OPP is committed to ensuring County roads are safe. Officers will continue to focus its' efforts on spot-checks, enforcement and education for drivers to try and reduce incidents of aggressive driving, drinking and driving, distracted driving and speeding.

Marine officers will continue to patrol our waterways to ensure that boaters are properly equipped with safety equipment especially flotation devices and are operating their watercraft safely.
