Perth County OPP Reports - August 18, 2014

ATV OPERATOR INJURED IN COLLISION

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Thursday August 14, 2014, shortly after 2:30 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision involving an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and a Buick Rendezvous at the intersection of Perth Line 44 (Bornholm Rd), and Road 170 (between Bornholm and Brodhagen). Investigation revealed that the ATV was being driven on Perth Line 44 when it was struck by the west bound Rendezvous. The impact resulted in the ATV and the ATV operator to be thrown into the ditch area on the south west corner of the intersection. The 16 year old ATV operator, a male resident of the Municipality of West Perth was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries. The 78 year old female driver of the Rendezvous, a resident of Fergus was uninjured as a result of the crash. Both the ATV and the Rendezvous sustained extensive damage as a result of the collision. The Perth County OPP is continuing its investigation into this crash.

DRIVER FAILS BREATH TEST

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Saturday August 16, 2014, shortly after 2 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 8 on the west end of Stratford. While speaking with the male driver the odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his breath. The driver failed a roadside breath test and was subsequently transported to the Stratford Police Department where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests. James NEW (18) of Stratford has been charged with "driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood". He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on September 15, 2014 to answer to this charge. He was also issued a 90 day driver's licence suspension and his car was impounded for 7 days.

E-BIKE DRIVER CHARGED WITH "OVER 80"

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Friday August 15, 2014, shortly before 2 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed an E-bike being driven on Argyle Street in Listowel with no headlight. The E-bike pulled into a parking lot where the officer spoke with the driver. The officer detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on the male driver's breath and subsequently administered a roadside breath test on him. The male failed the test and was transported to Teviotdale OPP Detachment where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests. James ANGER (41) of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with "driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood", and with "driving while disqualified". Both charges are contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on September 23, 2014 to answer to these charges. He was also issued a 90 day driver's licence suspension and his E-bike has been impounded for 7 days.
