Sexual assault - arrest

On November 27, 2016, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Guelph Police entered into a sexual assault investigation in the south end of Guelph. The victim in this incident is an 8-year-old girl.

As a result of the investigation, a 68-year-old Guelph male was arrested and has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. This male has been held for a bail hearing scheduled for November 28, 2016. Police are not looking for any other suspects. The 8-year-old victim was not physically injured in this assault.

Pedestrian struck - update

On November 24, 2016 at 4:37 p.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a pedestrian struck at Meyer Drive and Eramosa Road. It is alleged that a grey GMC van travelling westbound on Eramosa by Meyer collided with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 14-year-old girl from Rockwood was transported to Guelph General Hospital, where it was determined that she sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Guelph Police had Eramosa Road from Stevenson Street to Victoria Road closed for several hours as they reconstructed the scene.

Weapons arrest

On November 28, 2016 at 2:25 a.m., the Guelph Police investigated two males on Macdonell Street. A butterfly style knife was located in the possession of one of them and he was arrested. A subsequent search discovered homemade brass knuckles.

The 30-year-old Guelph man has been charged with two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, two counts of breach of weapons prohibition order and breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on November 28, 2016.


Collision driver arrested

On November 27, 2016 at 8:20 p.m., the Guelph Police responded to Devere Drive and Lambert Crescent for the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a roll over. On arrival police located two vehicles, one on its roof on the roadway and the other had been pushed onto the front yard of a residence.

Investigation determined that one vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the collision. The male driving was found to be impaired by alcohol and was arrested. Both vehicles sustained major damage and the arrested driver sustained minimal injuries.

Christopher Hopps, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on December 13, 2016.


Property damage downtown - arrest

On November 24, 2016 at 1:06 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Carden Street for the report that am ale had smashed the glass door to 90 Carden Street. Police located the male responsible still on scene and he was arrested.

The 33-year-old male of no fixed address has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on November 25, 2016.


Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received fifteen reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Creighton Avenue, Creekside Drive, Joseph Street, Clythe Creek Drive, Popham Drive, Victoria Road North, Swift Crescent, Preston Street, Woodland Glenn Drive, King Street, Hardy Street, Goodwin Drive, Metcalfe Street, Speedvale Avenue West and Powell Street West.


Impaired driver arrested

On November 24, 2016 at 5:25 a.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a possible impaired driver heading into Guelph on County Road 124 from the Jones Baseline area. Police located the motor vehicle and a traffic stop was conducted.

Police spoke with the male driver, he was determined to be impaired by alcohol and he was arrested. He later refused to provide samples of his breath as required to do upon arrest for impaired driving.

Clinton Hatton, 41 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and fail to provide breath sample. He will appear in court on January 10, 2017.
