Guelph, February 2, 2017: On Friday January 27, 2017, the Guelph Chamber of Commerce hosted H.E. Mr Eric Walsh, Canada's Ambassador to South Korea, for a roundtable discussion with leading businesses and institutions in Guelph.

"I am excited by what I'm seeing in Guelph, and the opportunities there are for local businesses to succeed in South Korea. The high level of innovation here can make a strong contribution to the trade relationship between Canada and South Korea," says Eric Walsh, Canada's Ambassador to South Korea.

South Korea is the 4th largest economy in Asia. The Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA ) is Canada's first trade agreement in Asia. CKFTA will eliminate tariffs on all major Canadian exports to South Korea, make it easier to get business people into the market and improve regulatory alignment between the two markets.

Korea has extensive supply chains throughout Asia in IT and manufacturing, making Korea an ideal location for regional head offices.

"Given Guelph's place as a leader in agri-business, manufacturing, energy and new technology development, it is important that the Guelph Chamber delivers on its commitment to provide further cross-border & global opportunities in these sectors for our local business community," says Kithio Mwanzia, President & CEO of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce. "Convening organizations that are actively involved and are eager to go global and connecting them with key opportunities to achieve this goal, is a means of accelerating local capacity and helping those organizations reach the next level."
