DRIVER CHARGED WITH SEVERAL OFFENCES

(NORTH PERTH, ON) - On Tuesday February 28, 2017 shortly before 11:00 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a green Toyota Corolla on Wallace Avenue North in the Municipality of North Perth.

The officer stopped the driver after he observed him almost cause a collision. The driver refused to identify himself to the officer and was subsequently arrested. Further investigation by the officer determined several offences had been committed.

41 year-old Matthew WEILER, from South Bruce has been charged with: * Turn-not in safety (Highway Traffic Act) * Fail to identify self (Highway Traffic Act) * Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act) * Dirty plate (Highway Traffic Act) * Use plate not authorized for vehicle (Highway Traffic Act) * Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner (Highway Traffic Act) The driver was released from custody and is to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Stratford on March 28, 2017. The plates were seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

DAYTIME BREAK IN TO RESIDENCE

(WEST PERTH, ON) - On February 15, 2017 Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of break in to a rural residence on Perth Road 168 in Municipality of West Perth.

Investigation by officers determined that between 5:00 a.m. and 4:30 pm on Wednesday February 15, 2017 unknown suspect(s) forcibly entered the residence and stole a Lenova Laptop, alcohol, jewellery, clothing and a sword. The occupants were not home at the time this occurred.

The value of the items taken is estimated to be approximately $1,000.00

FRAUDULENT MONEY TRANSFER

(NORTH PERTH, ON) -Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wants to alert the public to a phishing type fraud that recently occurred in the Municipality of North Perth.

An employee received an email that appeared to come from owner of the business. The e mail asked the employee to send a significant amount of funds via electronic funds transfer. This was done and later the employee spoke to the owner and realized the transaction was fraudulent. Investigation later on determined that the email address that this request came from was different than the owner's actual email address.

Fraudsters create email addresses that mimic that of the real ones.

COLLISION BETWEEN AMBULANCE AND CAR, LINE 29

(PERTH EAST, ON)- On Monday February 20, 2017 shortly after 2:00 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth East Fire Department and Perth County Paramedic Services responded to a collision between a car and an ambulance. This was at the intersection of Perth Line 29 and Perth Road 112 in the Township of Perth East.

The three occupants of the ambulance and four occupants of the car were transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for assessment and treatment. Two of the occupants of the car remain in critical, but stable condition.

As a result of investigation into this collision, the driver of the car, 31 year-old Arijit CHAKRABORTY of Waterloo has been charged with fail to yield to traffic on a through highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

THEFT OF SNOWMOBILE FROM GARAGE

(WEST PERTH, ON) - On Monday February 20, 2017 Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of the theft of a snowmobile from a garage on a rural property on Perth Road 180 in the Municipality of West Perth.

Investigation revealed that between February 4, 2017 and February 20, 2017 suspect(s) forcibly entered a vacant residence on Perth Road 180 and stole a snowmobile from the attached garage. The snowmobile is a green 2003 Arctic Cat 120 Kitty-Kat with a green tinted windshield. The value of this theft is $1,500.00.

THEFT OF TIRES AND RIMS

(NORTH PERTH, ON) - On Tuesday February 21, 2017, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified of the theft tires and rims from outside a residence on Elma Street in the Municipality of North Perth.

Through investigation it was determined that the theft occurred between 2:00 p.m. Monday February 20, 2017 and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday February 21, 2017. The four 18" rims and tires that had been propped up against the residence when they were taken. The value of these items is estimated to be one thousand dollars.

THEFT OF TRUCK, ST MARYS

(ST MARYS, ON) - On February 27, 2017 Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of the theft of a pick-up truck from lot of Tim Hortons on Queen Street East in the Town of St Marys.

Through investigation it was determined that at approximately 8:20 a.m. on Monday February 27, 2017 a driver left a pick-up truck running and unlocked in the parking lot of this business. A few minutes later an unknown suspect got into the vehicle and drove away. The stolen truck is described as a blue, single cab 2014 Dodge Hemi pick-up truck with a push bar and bearing Ontario licence plate 354-7TJ.
