By-Law Enforcement Officer assaulted

Just before midnight on March 13, 2107 City of Guelph By-law Enforcement Officers were performing patrols in the downtown area when they attended to the Carden Street Via station to lock it up for the night.

There was a conversation with a male who was inside the station to advise him that the station was closing and he would have to leave the premise. He was not compliant with that direction and then went into the washroom and would not come out. When the officers went in to speak with the man again, he assaulted one of the officers and police were contacted.

Police arrived and arrested 26 year old Kyle Bickford of Guelph for assaulting a peace officer. He was later released to appear in court on April 25, 2017.

Suspect found by staff after breaking in

At approximately 5:15am this morning, a staff member at the County of Wellington received an alarm notification at one of their Woolwich Street properties and went into work to check on the premise. When he arrived at work and began walking through the building, he came across a male that had pried open a door to get inside the building.

The male had a number of laptop computers and attempted to flee, only to be cornered by the staff member in another corridor. Police were called and took the man into custody without incident.

While in custody, it was learned that an unrelated investigation had identified this same male as the person responsible for a theft incident at a Willow Road store from March 7th. The 43 year old Guelph man was further charged with theft as well as break and enter, possession of break and enter tools and mischief under $5000.00 in relation to this incident. He was held in custody and is to appear in bail court today
