Man sprayed with bear spray

On April 14th at approximately 1:30 pm there was a confrontation between two men on Carden Street where one of the males brandished a knife and then sprayed the other male with bear spray.

The responsible male was quickly located by police a short distance away and arrested. The male was then searched and found to be in possession of a number of different pharmaceutical drugs and methamphetamine.

The 24 year old Guelph man was charged with a total of 10 different weapons, drug and breach of probation charges. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

Disturbance leads to arrest

In the early morning hours of April 14th, police responded to a Fife Road address after an unwanted man was put out of a residence there. He would not leave the area and returned wielding a baseball bat and a knife.

Police arrived and arrested the man at the scene. He was searched and found to be in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine. The 39 year old man from Guelph is charged with weapons dangerous to the public peace and possession of a controlled substance. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

Premise check arrest

In response to on-going issues in a Carden Street building, police were once again performing proactive patrols in that building in the evening hours of April 17th. A female was located sitting in a stairwell with drug paraphernalia and a quantity of crystal methamphetamine in plain sight.

Emma Griffith, a 35 year old Guelph woman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and was later released to appear before the court on May 30, 2017.

Bike thief arrested

Over the dinner hour on April 15th, a man was seen cutting the lock to a bike that was locked near a Carden Street restaurant. An employee of the restaurant knew the thief and when he started to walk towards him to confront him, the suspect dropped the bike and walked away.

He was not immediately located by police but the following day at 2:35 pm, the suspect was seen by police in the area of Gordon Street and University Avenue and arrested. A pair of bolt cutters were found on his person.

Charles Clarke, a 33 year old from Guelph was charged with theft under $5000.00, mischief under $5000.00 and possession of break-in instruments. He appeared in bail court over the weekend and was released to appear back in court on April 25, 2017.

Arrest in Gordon Street break-in

On April 11th, three males were captured on video when they kicked in the door to a Gordon Street building and took three bicycles from inside. One of the males was later identified by police and on April 15th, that male was located at a Norwich Street address and arrested. A search of the male located a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine on his person.

The 20 year old Guelph man was charged with break and enter, theft under $5000.00, breach of recognizance, two counts of breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. He was held in custody and is to appear in bail court.

Alcohol-related driving arrests

Just before 3am on April 17th, a green Jeep was stopped by police in the area of Macdonell for disobeying posted road signs. When the officer approached the vehicle and spoke with the 27 year old driver, observations were made that lead the officer to believe that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle may be impaired by alcohol.

The driver failed tests from an Approved Screening Device and was arrested. He then failed additional tests of his breath at the station.

Patrick McGilly from Niagara Falls was charged with drive motor vehicle over .08mgs and was released to appear in a Guelph court at a later date.

At approximately 4:40am on April 16th, police stopped a grey Toyota Corolla in the area of Woolwich Street. Conversation with the 30 year old driver lead police to believe that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle may be impaired by alcohol. The driver failed tests from an Approved Screening Device and was arrested. He then failed additional tests of his breath at the station.

Christopher Kannenberg of Guelph was charged with drive motor vehicle over .08mgs and was released to appear in a Guelph court at a later date.

Noise complaint leads to charges

At 7am on April 16th, police received a complaint about an excessively loud stereo that had been going on throughout the night at a Silvercreek Parkway apartment. When police arrived the music could be heard some 50 meters down the hall.

There were repeated attempts to get the resident to come to the door with no success. The music continued until 11pm that same night when police re-attended and were finally able to get someone to come to the door after trying again for over an hour.

Gabrielle Yee who is the 35 year old resident was arrested and charged with public mischief- lawful enjoyment of property. She was released to appear before court on June 2, 2017.
