New Farmers Market Coming To Local Neighbourhood

Web posted on May 25, 2017

The Two Rivers Neighbourhood Group, Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition, Upper Grand District School Board and Transition Guelph have come together to launch a new local farmer's market in Guelph.

The Two Rivers Market kicks off this Friday May 26th at Tytler Public School in the heart of the Ward in Guelph, focusing on bringing community vendors, local farmers, and neighbours together to strengthen the community, provide access to local food, and encourage local makers to share their products.

The market will boast a number of local vendors selling everything from certified organic produce to homemade crafts, locally made soap and backyard honey. Community groups have also been invited to share information with the community.

"We saw room for a new market in Two Rivers Neighbourhood because it is such a wonderful, vibrant community", explains Market Manager, Susan Carey. "The focus on local vendors means that we are supporting local farmers and vendors while giving neighbours access to local products reinforcing the strength of the community. Most of our vendors are from the neighborhood and all the produce is from within 30 km radius. It was really important to us that we don't have any resellers."

In 2017, the market will run a pilot season from May 26th to October 6th each Friday from 3pm 7pm. With the focus of the market being connecting community, there will also be other events taking place at the market such as BBQs, film screenings, community meetups, etc. throughout the summer.

Our goal is to create a richer, more vibrant community through the re-localization of the services and resources that we need in order to survive and thrive in a world of long-term energy cost increases, climate change, and growing instability in the world economy.
