UPDATE: West end Investigation

On Saturday, July 29, 2017 the Guelph Police Service were called to a home in the west end to assist paramedics with a medical situation. Upon arrival, based on their observations, police entered into a drugs and weapons investigation. The priority was to ensure there was no danger to the public.

Police arrested a 28 year old Guelph male for unauthorized possession of a firearm. A female resident was taken to the Guelph General Hospital for medical attention, unrelated to the firearm.

Police held the scene and, in the late hours of July 29th, executed a search warrant. It is alleged that items police seized were used to produce a Schedule 1 Substance, specifically methamphetamine. Furthermore, it is alleged that items police seized were used to make an explosive device.

As a result of the investigation, the 28 year old male was charged with several more drugs and weapons related offences. The following is the complete list of charges that the 28 year old male is facing:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Careless storage of ammunition
  • Make explosive without lawful excuse
  • Production of a schedule 1 substance
  • Possess anything knowing that it will be sued to produce a Schedule 1 Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance X3

In the morning hours of Sunday, July 30, 2017 a 52 year old Guelph female was arrested as part of the investigation. She is facing the following charges:

  • Production of a schedule 1 substance
  • Possess anything knowing that it will be sued to produce a Schedule 1 Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance X3
  • Breach of probation

The female was released with a September 1, 2017 court date. The male was held for a bail hearing and was remanded.

There will no further arrests in this incident.

Robbery- Arrest

On July 30th, 2017 at 11:20 PM, a male was riding his bicycle on Water Street at McCrea Blvd., Guelph when he was approached by another male. The male brandished a knife and demanded that the male gives him his bicycle. The victim fled the area on his bicycle and was not injured.

Further investigation revealed that earlier in the evening the same suspect caused damage to two different vehicles that had been parked in the area.

The suspect was located a short time later and was arrested.

A 26-year-old male of no fixed address was charged with Robbery, Weapons Dangerous, 2 counts of Mischief Under $5000 and Trespass by Night and held for a bail hearing.

Concerned Citizen calls in Impaired Driver

On Sunday, July 30th, 2017 at approx. 12:20 AM, a concerned citizen called the Guelph Police reporting an Impaired on Hwy 24 heading into Guelph.

Guelph Police located the vehicle a short time later and the driver was arrested.

A 59-year-old Guelph male was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive over 80 and will appear in court on August 11th, 2016.

Traffic Stop leads to several charges

On July 31, 2017 at 10:18 PM Guelph Police stopped a vehicle on Clairfields Drive Guelph and a roadside breath demand was given to the driver. A short time later the driver was arrested and charged with Fail to provide breath Sample. Further investigation revealed that the plate and insurance on the vehicle were both expired and the driver was charged accordingly.

A 41-year-old male form Guelph was charged with Fail to Provide Breath Sample-Approved Screening Device, Owner/Operate Motor Vehicle on Highway-No Insurance, Drive Motor Vehicle-No Current Validation on Plate and Fail to Surrender Drivers' License. He will appear in court in August.

The Guelph Police Service is currently investigating an incident in the area of Imperial / Wellington. Be advised there are no safety issues to the public. It is anticipated that police will remain in the area until the early morning hours.
