TWO ARRESTED

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) - On the 22nd of August 2017 around 2:30p.m. an alert citizen spotted a stolen pickup truck near Kinkora, ON. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the area and was able to locate the stolen vehicle in the area of Bornholm, ON.

Police approached a male who fled the scene, a foot chase ensued and the male was taken into custody without incident.

A second male was spotted on a blue ATV and also made the choice to flee from police. Perth County OPP along with the Perth County and Huron County Street Crimes Unit set up containment in the area of 49th Line and highway 23.

The OPP's Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team members were on route to locate the fleeing male. This male was later located in the area of 49th Line on foot by uniform members of the Perth County OPP.

As a result of the males attempt to elude Police, several Farms in the area received damage to their crops.

As a result of the investigation to date the following two males are charged. Joseph CLUETT age 22 of North Perth Ontario with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code X2
  • Flight while being pursued by peace officer contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code X 3
  • Break and enter contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a schedule I substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act X2
  • Driving while ability impaired by drug contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Fail to comply with probation contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code X2
  • Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1.1) of the Highway Traffic Act

William COX age 19 of Stratford, ON with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a schedule I substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances
  • Break and enter contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to section 93(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Failing to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code
  • Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1.1) of the Highway Traffic Act X2

Police recovered a previously stolen 2006 Grey Chevrolet Silverado and a 2008 Blue Polaris ATV.

Both accused were held for a bail hearing on the 23 of August in Stratford Criminal Court.

MALE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) - Today at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call regarding a distraught male.

The male was located on the roof of Mitchell District High School at 95 Francis Street, Municipality of West Perth. The male refused to cooperate with police.

Members of Perth County OPP set up containment around the school while additional specialized units responded. The Ontario Provincial Police Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) along with the Ontario Provincial Police Emergency Response Team (ERT), Ontario Provincial Police Canine Unit and Crisis Negotiators attended and around 9:00 p.m. the male was apprehended. No injuries were sustained to the male or any officers involved in the incident.

The roads in the area were closed for several hours but have since reopened. The investigation is ongoing.

COLLISION INVOLVING TRAIN

(WEST PERTH TOWNSHIP, ON.) - The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a train and a transport truck on Road 155 at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017.

Through investigation it appears that the unloaded transport truck and trailer was travelling southbound on Road 155, just east of Mitchell, approaching an passive railway crossing. A Goderich Exeter Railway (GEXR) train was westbound on the tracks. The tractor trailer failed to stop prior to crossing railway.

The train was unable to stop in time and collided with the trailer causing the front two locomotives to derail. The train was hauling eight rail cars, five loaded with grain and three empty at the time of the collision.

The transport truck driver was treated for minor injuries. The GEXR employees on the train at the time were not injured.

As a result of the collision the railway line and Road 155 will remain closed for a few days to assist with clean up and repairing the tracks.(Photos attached)

Police are advising the public to avoid the area and obey all road closures.

The investigation is continuing.
