Stolen vehicle recovered

On August 25th, the owner of 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck reported the vehicle stolen when it was left running outside of a local Tim Hortons. At approximately 12:30am today, police responded to information regarding a suspicious vehicle in the area of Delaware Avenue.

They arrived to find this reported stolen pickup running with a male inside. When the male saw police approaching, he got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly arrested.

A 34 year old Guelph man is charged theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a prohibited weapon (knife), and fail to comply with probation and an undertaking. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.


Youth arrested after theft from vehicle

At approximately 1:27am on August 28th, a Westwood Road resident saw a male going through her parked car who then fled on a bicycle when he realized he had been seen.

Police searched the area and located the male who in possession of a GPS unit that was taken from the vehicle. He was arrested and charged with theft under $5000.

The 15 year old Guelph youth was released to appear in court at a later date in September.


Thefts from vehicles

Thefts from vehicles continue to be an ongoing issue for Guelph residents. There were eight vehicles reported to police on August 28th that were entered and property was taken. In one instance there was a large quantity of cash and credit cards taken a vehicle.

The vehicle entries were reported on Westwood Road, Oxford Street, Waterloo Avenue, Rhonda Road, Woolwich Street, Wyndham Street, Davidson Drive and Golfview Road.

In most instances this crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
