Federal Gas Tax Fund Investments Benefit Guelph

Web posted on September 05, 2017

Residents of Guelph will soon benefit from federal Gas Tax Fund investments in local infrastructure that will help grow the middle class, create healthy communities for our children and promote sustainable development and long-term prosperity for Canadian families.

This year, Guelph will receive $7,399,405 in indexed annual funding through the federal Gas Tax Fund for municipal infrastructure like local roads, sports and recreation facilities and tourism infrastructure. The projects generate economic growth and create jobs to ensure that Guelph remains among the best places in the world to live.

Whether the federal Gas Tax Fund is invested to keep our roads safe and smooth, to support our public transit system or to improve residents' access to clean drinking water, it has made a difference in our community specifically with the replacement of streetlights, the improvements and retrofitting of City of Guelph buildings, the upgrading of recreational facilities and infrastructure upgrades such as bridges, pedestrian paths and road repairs.

All of these improvements have certainly contributed to the betterment of our City for all residents.

"Modern and up-to-date community infrastructure helps connect people to jobs and provides access to better community services, creates jobs as projects are constructed, attracts new businesses and creates economic growth. The Government of Canada knows communities are best positioned to identify their specific needs and the federal Gas Tax fund supports them in making those strategic investments, in partnership with provinces and territories." Lloyd Longfield, Member of Parliament for Guelph.

The Government of Canada is proud to deliver predictable, long-term funding to help municipalities build the Canada of the 21st century and ensure a high quality of life for generations to come.
